Nat:
The author/main character with no direction in life. Nat is lazy, short, romantically impaired, slow, motivationally challenged, sarcastic, monotone, and of course, generally apathetic. As well as being a master procrastinator, she has horrible reflexes and terrible endurance, making her fail at every physical activity known to man. Nat also has the appearance a child, an incredibly bad memory, and a morbid fear of needles. She spent her first year of university in Ottawa and her second in Victoria before dropping out. Currently a jobless loser who has moved back in with her mom in Vancouver.
David:
Nat's high school friend and former roommate. Somewhat cynical, he generally gives off a sort of serious vibe, which makes it all the more delightful when he does something unexpected and comical. He has a sardonic sense of humour, but can get away with it since it’s usually funny. He is also ridiculously resourceful. Currently attending university in Victoria.
Andrea:
Nat’s friend since from high school who is 2 years older than her. Like Nat, she doesn’t have much direction in life, so they often talk on msn and bitch about stuff together, which always is comforting. Andrea spends her time making various kinds of art and telling her cat Abby to shut up. Currently working and attending university in Vancouver.
Shaun:
Nat's high school friend. He refers to her as “Gibbons” and spends most of his time playing Xbox, drinking, and doing a whole lot of random crap. Shaun is laid-back and doesn’t get bothered by much, and is known for being completely and utterly socially challenged. Currently attending university in Victoria.
Tyler aka Jack (formerly known as Jackey):
Nat’s childhood friend. Despite a 2 year age difference and living in different cities, Tyler and Nat became close friends by spending every summer together. Likes: sleeping, drawing, videogames, anime/manga, Japanese rice crackers and candy, and his girlfriend Nicolle. Hates: kids and narwhales. Currently undergoing gender transition treatment and working in Vancouver.
Rebecca:
Nat’s high school friend. They spent a lot of time in grades 11 and 12 convincing each other to skip class and enjoy making fun of skanks together. Nat likes teasing Rebecca because she has extremely amusing reactions. She also has a secret hatred for chocolate pudding because it makes her nauseous. Currently residing in East Vancouver.
Halie:
Nat’s high school friend. She and Nat sat together in history and English class, spending their time making a starburst wrapper chain and having Tetris duels. Halie enjoys coffee, Miyazaki films, and beards. Currently working and studying recording arts at the Art Institute of Vancouver.
Nat's mom:
Nat’s mom has known Nat her whole life. They met when Nat was cut out of her belly for being strangled by her stupid umbilical cord. Nat’s mom is the one person who can easily drive Nat crazy, by constantly bugging her about all the things that she wants nothing to do with. However, she can be unexpectedly funny at times.
